As the pre-order date for the Apple Vision Pro approaches, insights into the mixed-reality headset have surfaced. During the official announcement, details about the included M2 and R1 co-processor were disclosed by Apple, albeit without specific specifications. However, the latest rumor suggests that the $3,499 device will feature the premium variant of the M2, enhancing graphics performance to meet the demands of its dual 4K microLED screens.

The enhanced M2 version will boast an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, the same configuration found in the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models. Apple introduced two versions of the M2, one with an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, and a pricier variant with a 10-core GPU.

According to information from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Vision Pro is expected to incorporate the more potent M2 variant, a fitting choice given its $3,499 price tag, ensuring it employs top-tier silicon for optimal performance.

The inclusion of the 10-core GPU is anticipated to deliver a slight boost in graphics performance, crucial for a seamless experience with 4K content on the high-resolution displays of the Apple Vision Pro.

Additionally, the R1 co-processor is likely to alleviate some processing burden from the M2, allowing the chipset room to handle more resource-intensive tasks. In a recent update on X, Gurman also noted that Apple Card customers will have the option to pay in installments during checkout.

This flexible payment option, offering the ability to pay in installments, could make the Apple Vision Pro more accessible to a wider audience, as a $3,499 purchase might not be financially viable for everyone in a single transaction.

Assuming Gurman’s information holds true, this strategic move by Apple may encourage more users to consider the Apple Vision Pro as their daily driver. Pre-orders for the device are scheduled to commence on January 19, with the mixed-reality headset officially hitting the market on February 2.
