“I’m quite shy,” David admitted later to W magazine about the encounter. “I just waved from the other side of the bar, said hello, and then returned to Manchester. I was quite upset and disappointed.”

“She had a couple of drinks, so I thought, ‘Why not? I’ll give it a shot and ask for her number,'” David revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020. “We chatted for about an hour at the player’s lounge, and she had taken the train that day, so she actually wrote her number on the train ticket, which I still have.”
Both of them characterized this moment as a love-at-first-sight experience.
