Alessio, an avid enthusiast of MotoGP, holds a special admiration for Danilo Petrucci, considering himself one of the rider’s most ardent supporters. Fulfilling a long-standing dream, the Italian enthusiast successfully crafted a replica of Danilo Petrucci’s last MotoGP bike from two seasons ago. This remarkable creation mirrors the RC16 used by “Petrux” during his tenure with the Tech3 team, now the current MotoGP factory team for GASGAS.

Inspired by this concept, Alessio initiated the realization of his vision by acquiring a 2015 KTM RC8R, securing one of the final units featuring the distinctive 1,195 cc twin-cylinder engine boasting 175 horsepower. The turning point occurred when Alessio crossed paths with Fabrio Dri, a skilled motorcycle fairing artisan. Recognizing the shared passion, the duo mutually resolved to embark on a journey to meticulously craft a replica of Danilo Petrucci’s RC16 MotoGP bike, using the RC8R as the foundation. After months of dedicated effort, the culmination of their project has been unveiled.

As the proprietor of Kooso Compositi, a company renowned for its expertise in motorcycle fairings and bespoke embellishments, Fabrio Dri engaged in discussions with Alessio to solidify the vision. Subsequently, Fabrio undertook the intricate task of translating the concept into reality by sketching detailed drawings on a blank canvas. This proved to be a challenging endeavor, requiring him to commence the design process from the ground up. With only photographs of the RC16 as a reference, Fabrio meticulously navigated the complexities of creating a faithful representation of the MotoGP bike.

Following an extensive period of dedication, the reproduction of the MotoGP fiberglass fairing reached its fruition, marking a significant milestone. However, Fabrio Dri’s responsibilities extended beyond this accomplishment. He delved into the realm of creativity once more, envisioning and designing numerous carbon fiber components. This included remarkable features like the front wings sourced directly from competitive arenas, as well as various elements such as the rear swingarm cover, both mudguards, the front airbox inlet (concealing the headlight), and numerous other intricate details present on the bike.

Opting to retain the WP suspension and Brembo brakes from the RC16, Alessio strategically equipped the chosen frame elements to facilitate an enjoyable on-road experience with this model. The tubular steel frame, a hallmark of bikes originating from Mattighofen, retained its distinctive tubular shape. This iconic design, synonymous with KTM motorcycles and still prevalent in MotoGP today, seamlessly blends tubular and rectangular sections within its framework.

In reflecting on his proudest and most time-intensive project, Fabrio Dri shared, “This is the outcome when your client, a devoted Petrucci fan, approaches you with the desire for a roadworthy replica of his latest MotoGP bike. We started with a KTM RC8 road bike, but he specifically requested the number ‘8,’ acknowledging that he’s not as swift as Danilo. Although this work was completed over a year ago, I hadn’t yet unveiled the captivating photographs taken by Flashblesst due to various reasons. While some parts of the frame were derived from an existing base, the majority was meticulously crafted from scratch—completely freehand, mirroring the process employed for all the carbon components.”

Dissatisfied with the final aesthetics, Alessio harbored reservations about the stock exhaust protruding from the bike’s fairing. Consequently, he took the initiative to enhance the motorcycle’s auditory and visual appeal by commissioning a comprehensive stainless steel system from the skilled artisans at Virex. Replicating the exhaust pipes from the RC16 MotoGP bike, they crafted a new exhaust system that not only exuded authenticity but also adhered to noise regulations, thanks to the incorporation of a Db-Killer.

Remarkably, Alessio succeeded in obtaining homologation for this RC8GP in his native country, Italy, enabling its use on public roads. Imagining Alessio’s arrival at any motorcycle gathering astride this replica, resplendent in the vibrant orange hue reminiscent of KTM’s pre-GASGAS phase, undoubtedly adds to the allure. In essence, the realization of a beautiful dream for this unwavering Danilo Petrucci aficionado.
