My Dire Straits Experience at the 100 Pipers ‘Play For A Cause’ Concert

By: Sandeep Verma

Hello world, I hope you guys are doing well and had a blasting weekend! For me, it could not have been better!

Ask me how?

A sea of flashing mobile lights, a jam-packed crowd that left not even an inch for you to stand straight and a cause that’s critical and urgent – well, that sums up The Dire Straits Experience, one which I had the privilege to be a part of last Friday, at Leisure Valley Gurgaon…err… Gurugram!

Please ignore my jaded look people, because, for a guy who loves mostly psychedelic and techno sounds, this was a major change, to get back to listening to some of the best rock music that the world has witnessed in the last four decades and I could not care less for where my hair flowed to.

The Dire Straits Experience made its grand debut in India courtesy 100 Pipers Music CDs ‘Play For A Cause’ to support the initiative of providing safe drinking water to the villages of Rajasthan and boy did they leave the place mesmerized or what.

You could actually feel the adrenaline pumping when they came on stage and Chris White opened the act with his flute… man…I can’t tell you how blissful the symphony was. It prepped the crowd for what was about to hit them.

Soon after, the formidable team of Chris White (sax, flute, percussion, vocals) and Chris Whitten (drums) supported in the lead by Terence Reis (Lead Vocals and Guitar) took the rock music admirers down the memory lane, with some of their greatest hits like Money for Nothing, Walk of Life, Brothers in Arms, Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love and more.

For those who could not be there for whatever reasons, I must tell you, you missed a great chance to be a part of history. Luckily for me, if someone ever asked me 10 years down the line ‘where were you when The Dire Straits Experience performed its first gig in India’ I would be able to say – I WAS THERE!

Well, assuming you are one of those who could not attend the event, and can’t really say- I Was There, do take a look at the pictures below and feel jealous already yeah!

One of my friends once said, I am in love with words and a zoned out poser… well, I will keep it the way it has been said! Besides that you can call me a compulsive poet, wanna-be painter and an amateur photographer
