Though there have been some revolutionary changes in the mindset of people in India, when it comes to maintaining their fitness level and keeping a tap on it, many still fail to keep a check on the progress that they make, especially in their daily life.
But there is a easy way out of that ‘how-do-i-keep-a-track’ dilemma now, as luxury sports brand; Nike, has jumped into the fitness tech fray with its Nike+ FuelBand, which tracks your day-to-day activity and measures this through a new medium called NikeFuel. What is interesting about this wrist band is that the more active you are, the more NikeFuel you will be rewarded with per day!
How does it work: You can decide at the beginning of the day, what level of NikeFuel you want to reach that day, and the Fuelband then displays how close you are to achieving your goal via a series of 20 LEDs. These LEDs gradually go from red to green as you approach your target. The Nike FuelBand uses accelerometry to record data about your exercise, which it can then relay to you as time, steps, NikeFuel or calories.
Looks: If you compare Nike Fuelband, then it surely is a looker and has all the simplicity of a Lance Armstrong LiveStrong charity wristband. Although it’s slightly more weighty without being annoyingly bulky. The rounded edges and smooth rubber coating gives one a very comfortable feel and actually looks more like a cool fashion accessory, than a fitness or health tracking device.
Technical points: The band is controlled via a single button at the front of the Fuelband. A single tap brings up a very retro LED display showing your latest Fuel points total, along with a band of red-amber-green that gives you a simple visual guide to how you’re tracking against that day’s target. The display also has an ambient light sensor so the brightness automatically adjusts. And if you decide to walk into a shower with the band on to your wrist, worry not, as it is water resistant but can give you some headaches if you decide to take a swim with it. The verdict, not hundred percent waterproof!
Charging and sharing the data: The bottom of the bracelet features a stainless steel clasp, one side of, which has the USB connect. You can also charge it via Wifi. Interestingly, you can also sync your latest stats with the iOS app and your Nikeplus.com profile.
